Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher was not overly pleased with Martin Odegaard after he celebrated by taking a camera off the club photographer and proceeded to take snaps of the Arsenal crowd following the Gunners‘ 3-1 over the Reds on Sunday. Mikel Arteta’s outfit claimed a vital three points in their Premier League race and the Emirates was full of jubilation at full-time.
Odegaard played a key role in what was deemed a six-pointer as the two teams bid to usurp defending champions Manchester City and claim Premier League glory this season.
Odegaard took a different approach to the buoyant celebrations inside the Emirates, instead joining club photographer Stuart MacFarlane as they cheered with the fans. The captain then grabbed a camera and took several photos, clearly happy with the shots, but Carragher was not as impressed.
„Arsenal deserved the win, Liverpool were so far off,“ Carragher told Sky Sports. „They played poorly, it’s not something we’ve seen of them of late. They’ve got three or four matches until they play Manchester City – that’ll be a massive test of their nerve now.“
When watching footage of Odegaard acting as a cameraman he then added: „Just get down the tunnel! You’ve won a big game, you’ve got the three points, you’re back in the title race, just get down the tunnel. I’m being serious, honestly.“
Odegaard, however, did not heed Carragher’s advice and instead wanted to continue celebrating what could go down as a key victory in Arsenal’s title charge.
Bukayo Saka gave the hosts the lead after 17 minutes when he tapped home on the rebound after Kai Havertz’s effort was initially saved by Alisson.
However, a defensive error from William Saliba and David Raya saw the ball bounce around in Arsenal’s penalty area before clipping Gabriel’s hand and into his own net to give Liverpool an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Liverpool then returned the favour when Gabriel Martinelli pounced on a long ball that Alisson and Virgil van Dijk both left to each other, tapping the ball home before Leandro Trossard put the cherry on the cake with a stoppage-time solo effort.
