Holland hostage crisis as ‚multiple people‘ held in city centre bar | World | News


Patrons of a Holland bar are being held hostage, a spokesperson for the city has confirmed.

Reports have emerged that „multiple“ people at a bar in Ede, in the Netherlands, are currently being held hostage.

Police said in a statement: ‘We notice that there are many questions about the reason. At this time there is no indication of a terrorist motive.“

First reports of a hostage situation are believed to have been made around 5.42am meaning the hostage situation has been going on for nearly five hours, reports Metro.

A person is reportedly is claiming to have explosives and 150 homes have now been evacuated.

Police said in a statement on Twitter: „A hostage situation involving several people is underway in a building in the center.

„That is why several specialist services are on site.“

People have been warned to „stay inside“.

The Police Unit East Netherlands, in the Province of Gelderland, has also updated the public on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The post reads: „#Ede – Due to an ongoing police incident, the police requests to stay away from the center of Ede.

„Stay inside and don’t come and watch.“

Another post reads: „An area is now being evacuated in „#Ede , approximately 150 homes.

„The residents are taken care of.“ 

The report added that police have set up several cordons and have attended the scene several special units.

According to one source – De Gelderlander – there is a hostage situation in the café that could involve weapons and/or explosives.

Evacuated residents are being looked after in the town hall on Bergstraat.
