Three teenagers have been arrested following the death of an elderly man who reportedly challenged suspected intruders at an allotment.

Police were called to a report of intruders at an allotment area off Southwood Road, Tonbridge Wells, shortly after 10pm on Wednesday, July 10.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: „Officers attended the location where a man in his 70s required treatment for a suspected medical episode following an alleged altercation with one of the suspects.

„Paramedics also attended and the pensioner was subsequently confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

„Three teenage boys were arrested in connection with the incident and have been taken into custody. An investigation is underway and a cordon is currently in place.“

The force has yet to say what the teenagers were arrested on suspicion of.

Tunbridge Wells MP Mike Martin said he was „deeply saddened“ to hear of the death and that he was being kept informed by police.

In a post on X he said: „I would ask that everyone gives the police the space to conduct their investigation.“
